South America Project

Here is a brief description of what has happened so far during our 5th grade South America project...

Columbia - The most popular sport is soccer. Our students performed a soccer relay race while dribbling the ball.

Venezuela - The most popular sport is baseball. We played kickball because it has similar elements to baseball.

Ecuador - One of the most popular sports is volleyball. Our students split up into groups and formed circles. They were asked to volley the ball as long as they could using the "set" and "bump."

Locomotor Skills Unit

Good morning everyone!

Our Locomotor skills unit is underway. Students will be performing basic locomotor skills (skipping, galloping, jumping, running, etc.) while engaged in various games and activities.

The 5th grade classes are also working on the collaborative South America project with all specialists. In Physical Education class, the students will learn the most popular sport or game from each country. They will then be able to play that sport/game or a variation of it.

Jump Rope for Heart

Congratulations Track 1 and 2 students!!! During our Jump Rope for Heart unit, Track 1 and 2 students raised over $7,000! Last year, Brassfield Elementary students raised less than $6,000 total. I am very proud that our students put the effort in to raise money for such a wonderful cause.

Jump Rope for Heart is currently underway for Tracks 3 and 4. All of the donations will be due on Friday, May 29th. I challenge all track 3 and 4 students to try to earn as much, or more, as tracks 1 and 2 . You can do it!!

If you would like to donate online, please check out our team page below..

Ball Handling Club Update

Dear Ballhandling families,

In response to the early release today and possible delay/closing tomorrow, I'd like to update you on our Ballhandling plan. If school is cancelled tomorrow, there will be no BH practice. If there is a 2 hour delay, BH practice will be held at 10:15. If there is a 3 hour delay, BH practice will be held at 11:15.
Also, as our performance date creeps ever closer, Mr. Flahive and I have decided to add practices. Beginning next week (2/23), we will have practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:15 unless otherwise directed.

Our Competition is on March 8, at St. David's school in Raleigh, and we are meeting there at 1:15.

Note to Track 2: If possible, please attend our final practices as we are practicing our routine now for the competition, and trying out for individual drills.
I know that some situations will make it impossible for you attend so no worries if that applies to you.

Let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

Happy Holidays!

Hello Brassfield Families! I hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday Season. I am very excited to spend this vacation time with my family. My parents will be visiting from upstate New York for the next two weeks and I couldn't be happier. They are obviously thrilled to escape the snow and frigid temperatures for a while. We are going to spend most of our time at my Sister and Brother-in-law's new home in Fuquay Varina. Rest, relax, and enjoy this time with your families! Oh, and don't forget to practice your dribbling skills. We will continue with Basketball in the new year :).
